We continue our series of 'Partners in Crime' interviews. And today we've got a lovely couple based in Cape Town: a duo of videographer & photographer, a South African & Czech, a husband & wife, Shaun and Šárka. Together, they are Cr8tive Duo. They're one of Rawsie's pioneers, so it was a real pleasure interviewing them and learning more about their story.
— How did you two meet?
We met during our university studies. I (Šárka) was on an exchange postgraduate program in South Africa and met Shaun at one random party where he was a DJ and the rest is history :-)
— How did you start working as a couple?
We were always very creative together. But we started as a photographer/videographer duo whilst we were living in Prague in the Czech Republic and fell in love with capturing other people's stories.
— How do you go about when you disagree?
We hear each other out and try our best to find a comprise, so we end up with a 'win-win' situation.

— What's the tip you'd give to other couples considering a business together?
We recommend finding at least one thing you can also do separately from each other i.e. Shaun loves to surf and I love to go for a skate on the promenade :)
— Best thing about working as a couple? For us it's having each other's back, sharing (and capturing) amazing stories and adventures, spending more time together and growing together :-) |
— What's the hardest part about working together? Sometimes it can be a bit challenging being together 24/7 and separating our personal life and work-life. |
— What inspires you as a duo?
Our most recent favourite TV show would have to be The Queen’s Gambit. We really loved how the storyline took shape and just the incredible story behind the making of the series. Also we love that Walter Tevis was rejected by all the large production companies for many years and then finally Netflix took a chance with him and how huge a success it was. We love that he never gave up on his vision to have his book made into a movie or series.
Šárka’s favourite podcast is called “Follow your magic” by Hello Christie. She talks about a lot of stuff ranging from business to how to tap into your inner self to become the best version of yourself. We also like to listen to lots of TED Talks as there are so many inspirational speakers and ideas. We love improving on ourselves and we feel it is very important to listen to what others have to say and make use of it in our everyday life.
Our favorite movie would need to the Lion King (the original one and not the 3D one) because we both have such fond childhood memories watching it and so when we watch it together it just makes us both super happy 😃
Nothing inspires us more than nature, light, people we shoot and their love. We truly focus on capturing people through our lenses in the most authentic way. We strive to create photos and videos that truly reflect their personalities and their life in the most creative and unique way.
